About the Book

Written in the style of short tweet like prose, Starbucks Ate My Lobster follows the life of a group of friends in April 2013, written through the eyes of a disillusioned lawyer turned writer, taking a sabbatical to finish his novel. The novella has been described as a '...deliciously quirky little book' and has been said to display the often vacuous existence of the social media generation: snapshot news: success reflected by volumes of followers, re tweets and likes, a dinner party where people text each other instead of talk, families who gather by Face Time. However, as well as reflecting the evolution of the way we communicate with each other and a potentially bleak glance at contemporary society, the book offers a darkly funny and satirical take on the way in which we live, ultimately throwing up a number of questions: Will the second novel ever be completed? Will he reach 1000 followers? Will the skinny jeans he won on E bay ever show up? Will Wrexham FC get promotion? Did Margaret Thatcher deserve a £10 million funeral? Is there hope for his generation? Will the North Korean President (who he swears he went to school with), succeed in blowing up the world - making all these questions, ultimately futile?
About the Author: Born in Wales and now living in Chester, England, the controversial debut novel became something of an instant underground phenomenon. Written through the eyes of psychopathic anti-hero Thomas Paul, the controversial novel quickly received acclaim and adulation from the Authonomy web site created by Harper Collins. Reviews quickly flooded the site: "a fiercely original piece of work ...fantastic prose and a truly psychedelic experience... bizarre but brilliant...superbly written... very unusual but highly exciting style... David Cronenberg meets Bret Easton Ellis... a real head trip... one of the best opening paragraphs that I have ever read... the prose itself -- at times poetic, at times scathing and Palahnuik-like... refreshingly original... he reminds me of a young Bret Easton... (the) humour is subtle and scathing. This is great great writing..." Published in 2009 by Billboard who picked up the book following a series of articles written in the C & C magazine (which Andrew continues to write for), the final version omitted, without the writer's knowledge a number of chapters from the final draft published on Authonomy. Such chapters were deemed by the publisher to be 'too brutal.' Attempts to produce a revised edition have finally come to fruition in the form of the Origins of the Seductive Amoebae, incorporating the original version, now available to download at Amazon Kindle. The long awaited second offering, under the working title Airplane Food For Beginners is nearing completion and will be released later in the year. However, in the meantime, the writer has completed an experimental new offering, Starbucks Ate my Lobster: a novella written over a 4 week spell in April 2013. It is unusual not only for the speed in which it as written but also by the fact that it is a story comprised of tweets both tweeted by the writer himself but also by tweets from the people he is following. The book was written unexpectedly whilst the follow up novel to Seductive Amoebae was being edited. "I found I was being distracted by Twitter and Facebook etc and suddenly found what I was writing and what I was tweeting were merging into one. I need to make sure it doesn't distract me from what I need to do (finish the second book) but it is a welcome distraction and does show the way in which social media is changing the way we communicate both with each other."
