Far beneath foamy surf, far beyond the sandy coast, a secret city thrives: Atlantis. Mermaids, selkies, and sylphs live in harmony and peace under the long-ruling royal family, the Sirens. Sirens are the only mermaids to still possess the ancient magic granted to them by Poseidon; and, the royal family are the last sirens in existence. This is due, in part, to the fact that all mermaids are female and must seduce mortal men to reproduce. What's more, each Siren Queen only traditionally visits the surface once in her lifetime, to produce a single heir.
Princess Aegaea, last living daughter of the ruling family of magical mermaids, the Sirens, has come of age. She has finished her royal tutelage. She has chosen her future Queen Consort- her best friend since childhold, lover, and current head of security, the scrumptious selkie Lochlynn. She must only complete one final Coming-of-Age tradition to take her crown: she must make the dangerous voyage to the surface to seduce a human and produce an heir.
Locklynn O'Sidhe has been in love with her best friend, the princess, since before she knew the words to put to those feelings. She lives to serve, but not out of obligation. She can never take her eyes off Aegaea- a fact that has little to do with her station as head of royal security. She's known since age thirteen that Aegaea would have to travel to the surface world and create the next princess one day, before she could take the throne. However, it's never felt as real as when the reigning Queen announces her daughter's impending departure unexpectedly, half a year early. Lochlynn would never be ready; but, she'd thought she'd at least have time to prepare herself to say goodbye... to let go...
Because, even if she survives- and, who's she kidding? Aegaea has never faced a day without Lochlynn in her life! She doesn't stand a chance among those viscous land-dwellers!-when she returns, Aegaea will announce her choice of consort, the one she wishes to spend the rest of her days partnered with. And, with all Aegaea's many, many lovers and suitors, what chance does Lochlynn stand? What does a daughter of a deceased ambassador and security guard have to offer as a Queen? Aegaea will announce another as her consort and Lochlynn will have to say goodbye to her best friend, demoted to nothing more than another security detail... Nothing will ever be the same, ever again.
She can't let this be the end. She can't let Aegaea go to the surface alone! She won't survive!
Aegaea is determined to see her Royal Duty through, even when she discovers she is not attracted to men. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot grin and bare their course natures, their smells, their lack of manners...! UGH!!!
When all seems lost and Aegaea begins to consider never returning to Atlantis, Princess Aegaea and Lochlynn meet Ann, a mortal transwoman, dancing in a club. Immediately, Aegaea and Ann hit it off. Sparks fly. The chemistry is indisputable, irrefutable, and irresistible.
Aegaea cannot stay away from Ann. Ann cannot keep her hands off Aegaea. But what about Lochlynn? And what happens when Aegaea returns to rule Atlantis and Ann is still a mortal, human woman?
