Diese Arbeit hat sich das Ziel gesetzt, die Notwendigkeit von strategischen Allianzen im aktuellen und künftigen internationalen Luftverkehrsmarkt darzustellen. Zunächst wird die Makroökonomische Seite des aktuellen Luftverkehrsmarktes wie zum Beispiel die Deregulierung, das "Passageprodukt" und die Angebots - beziehungsweise Nachfragestruktur beleuchtet. Das Aufzeigen der Möglichkeiten strategischer Allianzbildung ist bestimmend für den Fortgang dieser Untersuchung und darüber hinaus die Darstellung der Notwendigkeit, grenzüberschreitend zusammenzuarbeiten und damit neue Marktpotenziale zu erschließen. Dazu kommen verschiedene Formen von Kooperationen, die Feststellung der fließenden Grenzen von allgemeinen Kooperationen und strategischer Allianzen sowie die Einführung einer genaueren Definition des Begriffs "Strategische Allianz". Quintessenz der Untersuchung soll sein, strategische Allianzen als Erfolgsfaktor und als geradezu überlebensnotwendige Option im internationalen Luftverkehrsmarkt herauszustellen und dabei die eminente Wichtigkeit zu betonen, den richtigen strategischen Partner zu finden. Dazu werden die Ziele solcher Allianzen, die Elemente und Treiber für eine Allianzorientierung und vor allem die Voraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche Partnersuche und Partnerschaft erörtert und vorgestellt. Entscheidend für den Erfolg solcher Allianzen sind die richtigen Voraussetzungen für ein erfolgreiches Allianzmanagement: Faktoren für Erfolg und Misserfolg müssen daher an dieser Stelle reflektiert werden.
