Länder - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, Note: 1,0, Technische Universität Dresden (Institut für Geschichte), Veranstaltung: Hauptseminar: Umwelt- und Klimageschichte Mitteldeutschlands in Mittelalter und Früher Neuzeit, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die im 11. und 12. Jahrhundert einsetzende Urbanisierung im deutschen Raum sowie das nach den Pestepidemien erneute Bevölkerungswachstum ab der Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts und die damit verbundene Agglomeration einer steigenden Einwohnerzahl auf einem eng begrenzten Gebiet führten folglich zu einem eklatanten Entsorgungsproblem von Siedlungs- und Gewerbeabfällen jeglicher Art, da es noch an einem durchgängig strukturierten System zur Beseitigung derartiger Stoffe mangelte. Aufgrund dessen wurde der Unrat häufig auch auf den Straßen entsorgt, was ein legislatives Einschreiten des Rates im Sinne der städtischen Hygiene und Sauberkeit erforderlich machte. Denn bereits im Mittelalter lässt sich ein Bewusstsein für die gesundheitsbeeinträchtigende Kausalwirkung einer schmutzigen Umwelt nachweisen, boten doch die auf den Straßen entsorgten Fäkalien einen idealen Nährboden für epidemische Infektionskrankheiten, die "das wesentliche Bevölkerungsregulativ des Mittelalters [..] waren". Eine gepflegte und intakte städtische Umwelt wurde aber nicht nur aus Gründen der Gesundheit angestrebt, sondern auch ein inhärentes Bedürfnis nach Sauberkeit und Wille zur Repräsentation bildeten hierfür Faktoren. Im ersten Komplex der Arbeit soll zunächst der Zustand der innerstädtischen Verkehrswege thematisiert werden. Dafür werden einige narrative Quellen gegenübergestellt, anhand deren diametraler Aussagen die Schwierigkeit einer möglichst objektiven Bewertung der Sauberkeit in den mittelalterlichen Städten ersichtlich wird. Anschließend werden die maßgeblichen Ursachen für die verschmutzten Straßen dargestellt, bezüglich deren sich für die Obrigkeit die Notwendigkeit ergab reg
