Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Familie, Frauen, Männer, Sexualität, Geschlechter, Note: 2,3, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Institut für Soziologie), Veranstaltung: Einführung in die Klassiker der soziologischen Theorie, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Rahmen des Proseminars "Einführung in die Klassiker der soziologischen Theorie" bei Herrn Jörg Oberthür wurde der Inhalt der dazugehörigen Vorlesung vertieft. Thematisiert wurden die "Gründer" der Soziologie - Marx, Weber, Durkheim und Simmel - in Hinblick auf deren Struktur- und Entwicklungspläne sowie ihre je verschiedenen methodischen Vorangehensweisen, welche bis heute für die soziologische Theorie von großer Bedeutung sind. Im Verlauf des Seminars erwies sich die Studie von Emile Durkheim (1858-1917) über den Selbstmord als interessantes Thema für eine detailliertere Betrachtung, vor allem im Vergleich zur modernen Suizidforschung. Nach einer intensiveren Auseinandersetzung mit der Thematik fiel auf, dass Frauen nur wenig Beachtung, in der wissenschaftlichen Betrachtungsweise finden. Denn "Ansätze zur Theoriebildung bestehen so gut wie keine, obwohl die elementarsten Veränderungen im suizidalen Geschehen auf das Konto weiblicher Personen gehen" (Rachor 1995, S. 9). Somit erschien dieser Aspekt als besonders reizvoll. Im ersten Kapitel der Arbeit wird versucht den Begriff "Suizidalität" näher zu beschreiben. Dabei wird versucht die Phänomene Selbstmord und Selbstmordversuch zu definieren und gegenüberzustellen. Anschließend wird ein allgemeiner Überblick über Durkheims Studie gegeben und aufbauend darauf genauer auf seine vier Formen des Suizides eingegangen. Des weiteren folgt eine statistische Übersicht zum Thema generell, aber auch hinsichtlich der weiblichen Suizidalität, um im folgenden die sozialen Ursachen zu untersuchen. Dabei wurden die Ergebnisse Durkheims und die Erkenntnisse der modernen Selbstmordforschung getrennt analysiert und auch auf die soziale Bedeutung wird e
