L'histoire d'Abraham Ulrikab est l'une des plus tristes et des plus émouvantes qu'aient connues le Nunatsiavut (Labrador), les Inuits et le Canada. Dans l'espoir d'améliorer les conditions de vie de sa famille, en août 1880, Abraham accepte de partir pour l'Europe et d'y devenir la plus récente attraction des spectacles ethnographiques organisés par l'Allemand Carl Hagenbeck, propriétaire d'une ménagerie et pionnier des zoos humains . Accompagné par sa femme, leurs deux fillettes, et quelques compatriotes, Abraham est exhibé à Hambourg, Berlin, Prague, Francfort, Darmstadt, Krefeld et Paris. Très vite, les Inuits comprennent leur erreur et ils n'ont plus qu'un souhait, celui de rentrer chez eux. Un an à passer c'est bien trop long parce que nous voudrions rentrer vite dans notre pays, parce que nous sommes incapables de rester toujours ici. Oui vraiment! C'est impossible!, écrit Abraham dans le journal qu'il a tenu durant son périple. Malheureusement, le destin en décide autrement. Moins de quatre mois après leur arrivée en Europe, le groupe est décimé par la variole. Résultant d'une enquête échelonnée sur quatre années, le livre "Sur les traces d'Abraham Ulrikab" révèle enfin la vérité sur le sort réservé aux ossements des Inuits. Il met en lumière la possibilité de changer le cours de leur histoire puisque, quelques 134 ans après la mort d'Abraham, de Maria, de Nuggasak, de Paingu, de Tigianniak, de Tobias, de Sara et d'Ulrike, leur voeu exprimé de rentrer au Labrador pourrait devenir réalité!
About the Author: Au printemps 2007, lorsque France Rivet dit au revoir a sa carriere de consultante en informatique, certains de ses collegues pensent qu'elle est tombee sur la tete. Mais sa fascination pour les regions polaires et ses passions de longue date pour les voyages, l'histoire, l'ecriture et la photographie l'emportent. Ils la conduisent a fonder Horizons Polaires, une entreprise a travers laquelle elle consacre son temps et ses competences a faire decouvrir l'Arctique, sa nature, ses peuples et son histoire.

Tant qu'elle se souvienne, France a toujours montre un interet dans le domaine des communications. Les bulletins publies par ses ecoles, ses employeurs ou par les diverses organisations sociales auxquelles elle a appartenu, ont tous beneficie de ses ecrits ou de ses photographies. De plus, sa passion pour l'histoire et la genealogie l'a amenee a faire du benevolat pendant plus de 15 ans pour la Societe de genealogie de l'Outaouais.

En regardant en arriere, France se rend compte que toutes ses experiences passees l'ont preparee pour son plus grand defi a ce jour: rechercher et documenter la mort de huit Inuits du Labrador en Europe en 1880 alors qu'ils etaient exhibes dans des zoos. En 2009, lorsque France entend parler du destin tragique d'Abraham Ulrikab, elle ne se doute nullement qu'un an plus tard elle entreprendrait d'aller au fond de cette histoire. En 2014, quatre ans et trois voyages de recherche en Europe plus tard, ce projet lui a permis de publier son premier livre: Sur les traces d'Abraham Ulrikab, le livre qui reecrit l'histoire d'Abraham.
