Survival Caches

Ask yourself a serious question: have you ever thought, as part of your disaster preparedness plans, about stashing away some valuable survival items in a remote location that you can then access later when the need arises? This is exactly what a survival cache is: a simple hiding place of valuables that you will come back to later to retrieve. For example, should you ever need to quickly bug out from your home in the event of a large scale disaster but can't bring any survival items with you, you could retrieve your cache to access those items instead. Contrary to what many people think, survival caches are not just for preppers and survivalists. Many everyday people have hidden caches containing food and basic survival items as well, and a few of the victims of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina were able to show just how useful it was to have supplies stored away at strategic locations when they were forced to evacuate their homes. Many outdoorsmen (and women) will bury supplies at a cabin, campsite, or hunting location in a remote area to access at a later date as well. Since many of these remote places can be vulnerable to landslides, floods, or heavy rain and snowfall, having a cache of items available for you to access could mean the difference between life and death. In essence, the wisdom behind the survival cache is that it allows you to resupply yourself should you need to evacuate your property and community in the event of a catastrophe. That being said, there is still far more to the survival cache than just filling up a box with some critical survival items and burying it in a remote location without thinking twice about it. Just the opposite, a survival cache requires careful thought in terms of determining why you want to build it, the items that you want to put in it, how you will build it, where you will hide it and retrieve it, and so on.
