"You see, there's a wolf who found his mate in our pack recently but did not claim her. We need to find him."
"I understand the seriousness of this situation," I reply, "but why come to me? Shouldn't you handle it within your pack?"
Alpha Calvin sighs, looking slightly uncomfortable. "Normally, yes, but the wolf in question left her heartbroken. We've searched our territory extensively, but there's no sign of him. We don't have the resources to search our borders."
"So, you want me and my pack to help you find this guy and bring him back?" I ask, trying to grasp the full extent of their request.
Alpha Calvin nods solemnly. "Yes, precisely.
"Alright, Calvin," I finally say, "I'll talk to my Alpha about this. If he agrees, we'll lend a hand and help you find him." I turn to leave but stop in my tracks to ask, "Do you have a name or something that could identify him?" Alpha Calvin's beta replies instead. "Keal, his name is Keal."
***********
"How was the alpha's meeting?" he inquired, rising from his seat and walking over to the mini bar. He poured two drinks and handed one to me, a gesture to ease the tension between us.
Nervously, I accepted the glass, taking a large gulp to calm my nerves before I began, "The usual stuff, Keal." But I knew I couldn't withhold the truth for long, not from the Alpha I respected and admired.
Seeing through my hesitation, Keal's patience waned, and he looked at me sternly. "Enough with the evasive answers, Ethan. Tell me what's bothering you."
"The Silverwood Pack made a strange request," I admitted, feeling the weight of the information I was about to reveal.
Keal's eyebrows furrowed in curiosity and concern. "What did they ask for?"
"They needed help to find a wolf who didn't claim his mate," I revealed, hoping Keal would grasp the significance of the situation.
I observed my Alpha's conflicting emotions, realizing that Keal knew exactly what this request meant. "They have a name," I continued, almost teasingly.
"Enough, Ethan," he finally said, his voice firm yet heavy with emotion. "You're excused."
