About the Book

There are those among us who by their very natures are "born adventurers". Then there are some like Garret Brown who unwittingly are thrust into an epic adventure, not of their making, but nevertheless very real and dangerous, an adventure at which they first balk and then learn to adapt finally to and accept. Few of us will have to fight for our lives against foes who want us dead simply because, nor will we be carried to an entirely different world far, far away from everything we once knew. However, once Garret gets past his unwillingness to believe in his strange circumstances and accept friendship from good people known as Seekers, he slowly begins to emerge as a hero in the making.

Garret Brown, the story's protagonist, is living under a dark cloud of grief due to the untimely death of his wife and unborn child. In an effort to get Garret out of his funk, his boss persuades him to travel on business to Belize to evaluate the possibility of turning properties there into small resorts for tourists. While in Belize Garret is shown an archway in the jungle which is unlike any Mesoamerican ruin in Central America.

Prior to his marriage to Garret's wife, Alora, he was an afficionado of fencing, the ancient art swordplay. Alora was also an enthusiast. After her passing, Garret kept Alora's foil as a precious memento, and for purely emotional reasons, he takes the foil along with him to Belize. This proves serendipitous as the foil activates a gateway in Belize leading to another world to where Garret is transported.

In the first few days on Malingswold, the new planet, Garret is accosted by cutthroats, saved by elves, befriended by people know as Seekers and given a mission to perform by a being known as the companion. He will spend months traversing Malingswold, in the company of his new friends, the Seekers, as they look for a way to return Garret to Earth. In these travels, Garret learns the difference between fencing as a hobby and sword fighting as the means of protecting his own life and the lives of others.

Book one of the Seekers of Light Chronicles, Sword of a Seeker, introduces us to magic, mayhem and amazing adventures.
