Zielsetzung: Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, den Einfluss von HIT in allen Intensitätsbereichen auf die metabolischen Parameter VO2max und HRmax zu untersuchen. Es soll aufgezeigt werden, ob sich dadurch positive Effekte erzielen lassen. Methodik: Dazu wurde eine systematische Literaturrecherche auf der Plattform Web of Science mit den Suchbegriffen 'high intensity interval training', 'HIT', 'HIIT' und 'interval training' durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse wiederum wurden anschließend in einer Meta-Analyse ausgewertet, um einen durchschnittlichen Gesamteffekt auf die Parameter VO2max und HRmax zu ermitteln. Ergebnisse: Es konnten insgesamt 20 Studien mit 210 Teilnehmern in HIT-Experimentalgruppen ausgewählt werden, die den Anforderungskriterien (Erscheinungsjahr: ab 2000; Alter: 18 bis 45 Jahre; Trainingszustand: untrainiert bis leicht trainiert; gesund; BMI: maximal 25 kg/m2; standardisiertes HIT-Training mit Prä-Test, Intervention und Post-Test; Belastungsdauer: mindestens 30s; ohne Supplementzugabe) entsprachen. Der ermittelte durchschnittliche Effekt auf VO2max beträgt d=1,0430 (95% Konfidenzintervall mit 0,4194; 1,7412), der durchschnittliche Effekt auf HRmax d=0,2238 (95% Konfidenzintervall mit -0,0188; 0,4235). Die für die Interpretation verwendeten dazugehörigen r-Werte betragen für VO2max r=0,4647 und für HRmax r=0,0994. Fazit: Ein durchschnittliches HIT-Training mit 5,6 Wochen Dauer, 15 Trainingseinheiten und Belastungsphasen von 30s bis zu fünf Minuten eignet sich dazu, VO2max um einen mittleren Effekt zu steigern. Die Auswirkungen auf HRmax dagegen sind mit einem sehr kleinen Effekt verbund
