About the Book

THE JELLO CASTLE series is a fascinating portal to the growing-up adventures of a little girl nicknamed "T" and her guardian, a mythical, griffon-dragon named "GRIF." The castle setting beckons the reader to imagine what it would be like to live, grow and learn in such a colorful, intellectual as well physically adventuresome lifestyle. A warm, close-knit yet highly imaginative and intelligent family setting exudes comfort and security during challenges and adventures of growing and learning. The protective watchfulness of Grif and a science-based, virtually activated computer chip offset danger. A woodland monster-creature and a science lab featuring a robot-supervised game room are stimulating and enlightening. Parent-scientists work reassuringly nearby as their children enjoy stimulating games like checkers, chess and animated building blocks from early ages. Social and behavioral lessons are subtly yet exuberantly illustrated through robot parts and exhilarating field experiences. Parents and adults who preview the book will appreciate lessons in life and lab sciences as well as human development and behavior. Children who delight in exploring the castle tunnel, the surrounding woods, and classroom field trips in the company of imaginary small animal friends will not realize how much they are learning through the fun and adventure of reading THE JELLO CASTLE Books.
About the Author: The author's observations and the use of education through storytelling began through his own family experiences. The art form evolved through the main character of "T" in his JELLO CASTLE series. His participation in the affectionate and surrogate support of the grandchild of a close friend provided a rich foundation on which to build. The words of a song, "I've watched children grow...They'll learn much more than I'll ever know..." best reflect the potential of the openness and perceptiveness of a developing mind and person. Bartow's origins in the Pacific Northwest, his part-Native-American heritage and his love for mountain climbing and outdoor adventure are only the beginning of his personal journey. He attended schools in the Seattle area, graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in physics and.... He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Pennsylvania. Building on the climbing, skiing and mountain rescue skills that were a part of his youth, he worked as a technical climber for exploration company in Alaska. He taught at the University of Northern Arizona and at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been employed the fields of science, engineering and management by Boeing, by General Electric and by Honeywell. He formed a consulting firm and an outdoor challenge firm. His concept for a demonstration climb of Mt. Rainier became the centerpiece of the Reagan administration's 1981 "International Year of Disabled Persons." The successful summit on Independence Day, made national headlines. The story became an international testimony to the phrase "disability does not mean inability" when the team of handicapped climbers received a hero's welcome in The Rose Garden of the Reagan White House. Projects and research correlate to educate in Bartow's many books. Excursions in Alaska, Jewel Cave near Mr. Rushmore and caving and climbing using outdoor challenge in caves, canoes and cliffs across the country serve to illustrate the physics and engineering characteristics of drafts, updrafts and pressure in the JELLO CASTLE adventures. Orienteering and nature activities in his stories reflect his outdoor experiences There is a real-life educational and adventure component in the author's writing for reader's of all ages and life situations.
