About the Book

Religion sure is confusing to a twelve year old boy in Catholic school, having to cope with the Holy Trinity as well as an older sister and puberty. Singing in Catholic school is usually in Latin instead of English, so we never have any idea what we are singing about. The older kids laugh and say it' something dirty. How would we know? The worst I've ever done is to sing `Tantum ergo makes your hair grow, ' instead of the real words. Some people dance around a pole in other countries to celebrate May. But where I live and got to school, we have to march around in a procession and sing to the Blessed Virgin Mother, Mary, Queen of the May. Virgin is one of those words they use a lot in Catholic School, but never tell us kids what it means, just like the Immaculate Conception or the feast of the Circumcision.
About the Author: John DeRuntz resides in Tigard, Oregon where he lives with his wonderful wife, Maggie. They also share their home with two cats, pretty little Pepper, and Rudy, a mischievous white flame point Siamese. In addition to writing, John also enjoys composing, and performing, classical, romantic and impressionistic piano music. His passion for the keyboard even brought him the distinction of being invited to perform in the May, 2011 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs. John has recorded fifty of his piano works on four CD albums, Soaring, Fantasia, Reverie and Encore. He seems to have been blessed at birth with creative not only in music, but mathematical physics as well. As he likes to tell people, both of these endeavors are studies in space and time, and somehow, they complement one another. John began his multi-faceted career teaching Physics as an Assistant Professor at the University of California in Berkeley beginning in 1964. He later became a Senior Staff Scientist at the Lockheed Research Laboratory in Palo Alto, California. He is a retired, award winning mathematician, scientist and professor who received the Baron medal in 2007 for his innovative work in the field of computational dynamics for interacting media.
