Penso che potrebbe essere utile dire qualcosa sulla dinamiche di come lavoriamo alla Tate Modern. Non è, infatti, solo una persona che prende una decisione per tutto l'edificio. C'è un team di curatori che porta le proprie prospettive, ed esiste anche uno schema generale che funziona per tutto il museo. Ogni stanza è gestita da diverse persone che lavorano in conversazione nel gruppo. Ci saranno quindi persone che sono affascinate dall'Institutional Critique, altre che conoscono Broodthaers, e altre ancora che si occupano di altre cose. Questo è ciò che arricchisce il museo. (Matthew Gale)Tate Modern tenta di ridefinire alcune pratiche espositive che nel tempo hanno portato al nuovo riallestimento tematico della collezione della Tate Modern, che proprio all'inizio del nuovo millennio inaugura con un nuovo approccio espositivo con il quale restituisce il patrimonio tematicamente, abbandonando quindi il tradizionale criterio cronologico. Analizzare il significato di questa operazione significa contestualizzarla all'interno della storia delle mostre, delle pratiche curatoriali e del museo, una istituzione che nel corso degli anni ha vissuto differenti fasi di analisi e di lettura da parte di storici dell'arte e artisti. Ciò che caratterizza il museo è infatti la sua natura eterogenea, composta da fattori che negli anni sono mutuati in relazione al contesto storico, artistico e sociale. Per una corretta prospettiva storica e teorica è necessario contestualizzare lo studio del museo e delle pratiche espositive dal 1968, simbolico snodo di importanti cambiamenti socioculturali, e quindi di analizzare le pratiche curatoriali che dagli anni Settanta hanno tentato di destabilizzare e detronizzare la tradizionale impostazione espositiva. Il volume è quindi strutturato in modo da restituire una prospettiva storica e teorica sull'idea di museo e di pratiche curatoriali, con un focus su alcuni modelli espositivi e figure chiave che nel corso del secolo scorso hanno lavorato attraverso una prassi tesa alla ridefinizione delle tassonomie artistiche e non, e mostre che negli anni sono diventate veri punti di riferimento nello studio delle esposizioni.
