Die Dissertationsschrift leistet durch die ausfuhrliche Analyse einer der spateren, langeren epistulae einen grundlegenden Beitrag zur wissenschaftlichen Erschliessung des senecanischen Briefwerks bzw. des philosophischen OEuvres Senecas insgesamt. Die Arbeit beleuchtet dabei eingehend sprachliche und stilistische Auffalligkeiten und Probleme. Besonders textkritische Fragen, die in grosser Anzahl vorhanden sind, werden mithilfe bereits bestehender sowie eigener, neuer Emendationsvorschlage diskutiert. Es wird ferner aufgezeigt, wie sich der Brief in Senecas philosophisches Gesamtwerk einordnen lasst; dabei werden die restlichen epistulae (v. a. der aVorgangerbrief 28) sowie die Dialoge intensiv miteinbezogen. Vor allem (scheinbare und reale) Widerspruche im Netzwerk des senecanischen Opus konnen so geklart werden. Damit unmittelbar einhergehend erlautert die Promotionsschrift den philosophischen Hintergrund, d. h. die stoischen Theoreme sowie deren Pragung bzw. Auslegung und Gestaltung durch Seneca in der literarisch-didaktischen Praxis. Nicht nur innerhalb des OEuvres Senecas, auch durch den Vergleich mit den stoischen Vorlaufern ergeben sich Reibungspunkte. Interessante Aspekte, die genauer fokussiert werden, sind dabei beispielsweise die Selbstmordproblematik, der fortuna-Begriff, das Frauenbild und der Umgang mit den indifferentia. Besonders ausfuhrlich wird Senecas Faszination fur Sokrates und den jungeren Cato dargelegt, die zum Ende des Briefes ausfuhrlich anhand eines jeweiligen kurzen biographischen Abrisses gepriesen werden - wodurch auch ein Bogen zuruck zum Beginn des Briefes geschlagen wird, wo Seneca sich selbst als exemplum darbietet.
