Die vorliegende Arbeit enthalt den abschlieaenden Ausgrabungsbericht von drei Siedlungsphasen in Tell el-Dab'a, das im agyptischen Nildelta liegt. Diese Siedlungen wurden vermutlich von Menschen aus den unteren Schichten bewohnt. Dies kann aus der Groae der Hauser und dem erhalten gebliebenen Hausrat geschlossen werden. Der Bericht rekonstruiert die Lebensumstande der Menschen im marschahnlichen Nildelta im spaten Mittleren Reich (ca. 1830-1700 v. Chr.). Neben der Schlammziegelarchitektur, die typisch fur altagyptische Wohnbauten ist, wurden Rundsilos zur Speicherung von Getreide, Feuerstellen, industrielle Ofen und unregelmaaige Verbindungswege ans Licht gebracht. Die Wohnhauser werden systematisch beschrieben und gemeinsam mit den Funden vorgestellt und analysiert. Keramik- und Steingefaae, Steingerate und Figurinen aus Fayence sowie Objekte aus Hartgestein bilden die haufigsten Fundkategorien. Die Tierknochenanalysen wurden ebenfalls miteinbezogen, sodass uber die Ernahrung der Bewohner Aufschluss gegeben werden kann. Importierte Keramikgefaae aus der Levante und Oberagypten geben Einblicke in das Warenaustauschnetzwerk mit diesen Gebieten. Dieses Buch bildet eine reiche Primarquelle zur Siedlungsarchaologie in Agypten. Der vorgestellte Siedlungstyp ist durch die bekannten Siedlungen bisher nicht abgedeckt. Die Anordnung erfolgte unregelmaaig mit individuellen Hausern, die weder in der Groae noch im Grundriss einheitlich sind. Eine solche Anlage, die man als organisch gewachsen bezeichnen konnte, steht im Gegensatz zu den geplanten orthogonalen Siedlungen, die als typisch fur Agypten gelten und die aus Lahun oder den nubischen Forts bekannt sind. Daruber hinaus kann durch die Vorlage von drei aufeinanderfolgenden Siedlungsschichten die Entwicklung dieser Siedlung uber einen Zeitraum von mehr als 100 Jahren nachgezeichnet werden. So tragt dieser Band Neues zum bisherigen Corpus von Siedlungstypen bei.
