This is Vol. l of the Thompson Flexibility Studies for trumpet players. It is designed
for beginning trumpet players. It is also designed for players returning to the horn
after a very long time of not playing or practicing. If you are an intermediate or
advanced trumpet player, this volume will likely only be part of a good daily warm up
for you. Why? If you are not a beginner or comeback player, it will be too easy.
So, if you ARE a beginner or comeback player, you are in the right place!
On the other hand, what if you are in 8th grade starting your 2nd or 3rd year of
playing trumpet? What if you are a comeback player, but you actually restarted the
trumpet a year ago or 2 years ago? Well, you may find this book easy. Perhaps you
may find it too easy.
If you truly are an intermediate trumpet player or advanced, or if you are a comeback
player who really isn't a comeback player anymore i.e. you have already been
practicing everyday for the last year or more, this book at most will serve as a good
part of your daily warm up. You should seriously consider starting Vol. II of the
Thompson Flexibility Studies.
I want the right player to be using this book and having a good time doing so. I made
this book such that a beginner doesn't even need to know all their fingerings or the
name of the notes. All they have to do is understand the valve numbering system to
play through most of these exercises. Having a basic understanding of note and rest
values is also a requirement. (i.e. quarter note, whole rest, and etc...)
