Tom Swift and His Submarine Boat

Book #4 in the Tom Swift 100th Anniversary Project. Tom Swift's father, Barton Swift, is a great inventor with many patents and project sold to both private enterprises and the Government. Now, Tom joins him as they set out to test a new deep diving submarine Barton has build to try to secure a military contract. Driven by a radically new form of propulsion, it is up against other submarines, but their primary opponent is an unscrupulous man who will do everything possible-including attacking the Swifts-to win that contract. Things take a turn when a gold-laden ship sinks off the coast of South America, and it becomes a race both in distance and diving ability to see which submarine will win the contract and also get that gold! ------------------------------------ This book has been substantially rewritten to remove outright racism and to enhance the mechanical and technical interests. Many books of this era used sentence structures, certain words and even punctuation in ways that can be confusing to younger readers today. So, every effort has been made to alleviate this issue while retaining the flavor of a story first told more than a century before.
About the Author: Thomas Hudson either writes as multiple authors (Victor Appleton, Victor Appleton II, Clarence Young IV, T. Edward Fox, etc.) or they all write as him. In any case, he is prolific in authoring Tom Swift adventures and short stories. He lives and writes, but no longer works, somewhere in the great Pacific Northwest, nestled among a variety of trees. He discovered how easy it is to shock people if they ask "how've you been?" and you tell them you had a heart attack two days earlier. (True story!) At the tender age of fifteen, Mr. Hudson impressed his English teacher by beginning a biography assignment with, "I started life as a bastard." The positive reaction and praise given him by a teacher he respected set the pattern for a life filled with typing. By his own "wonky" math, he has written nearly fifteen million words (take that, James A. Michener!) for the purposes of collecting paychecks, another 1.75 million writing Tom Swift novels and novellas, and probably 250,000 for various school projects. He was once told by a college professor-following his turning in 10 pages on a 5-page assignment-"Listen. I know you write good stuff. You know you write good stuff. You write too much good stuff. I promise you I don't read more than the first five pages, so you could pad things out with five more pages of 'blah blah blah, my aunt Sally's knickers, ' and I wouldn't give you anything less than an A." He soon began limiting himself to 6 pages with special messages on the last one to the professors just to see if they were reading more than the assigned number of pages. They were! And he got at least one date out of it.
