Dies trägt den zunächst einmal etwas überspitzt klingenden Titel: "Zum Manager wird man geboren" (Luik: 2007). Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit der wissenschaftlichen Fragestellung, die sich ursprünglich aus diesem Interview heraus entwickelt hat: Warum haben Personen - überindividuell gedacht - möglicherweise einen ungleichen Zugang zu den wirtschaftlichen Elitepositionen in Deutschland? Die Arbeit handelt folglich im Kern von der sozialen Position der Eliten im Zusammenhang mit dem soziologischen Grundgedanken sozialer Ungleichheit. Ziel der Ausführungen ist es, bezüglich der Frage empirische und theoretische Antworten zu finden. Um dies zu erreichen, basiert die methodische Vorgehensweise, die dieser Arbeit zugrunde liegt, nicht nur auf einer intensiven Recherche einschlägiger Fachliteratur, sondern sie beruht - getreu der wissenschaftlichen Arbeitshaltung - auch auf einer kritischen Literaturverarbeitung. Der Hauptteil beginnt mit einer sozialwissenschaftlichen Bestimmung des Elitebegriffs. Dabei geht es nicht darum, eine ausführliche Diskursanalyse zu bieten, was im Rahmen einer Seminararbeit bei solch einem gewichtigen Terminus auch nur schwer möglich erscheint. Vielmehr dient das Kapitel dazu, den Begriff der Elite kontextuell abzustecken, indem er auf die eigene Verwendung hin definiert werden soll. Im zweiten Kapitel wird die soziale Gruppe der Topmanager als zentraler Gegenstand der Untersuchung konkretisiert, um zu prüfen, ob diese mithilfe der zuvor ausgearbeiteten Definition überhaupt als Elite identifiziert werden kann.
