Im Mittelpunkt steht das innere Drama von Menschen in Ausnahmesituationen. In einer mittelfränkischen Kleinstadt kreuzen sich die Lebenswege von Menschen, die zunächst nichts zu verbinden scheint. Albert, ein IT-Experte für verdeckte Informationsbeschaffung, kommt bei der Lösung einiger ungeklärter Fragen nicht voran. Warum hat sich der Drehbuchautor Jens Thellmann nach Ozeanien abgesetzt? Oder sitzt er gegen seinen Willen auf einer Pazifikinsel fest? Und hat sich Jens' Vater durch eine Urlaubsbekanntschaft wirklich in eine undurchsichtige Affäre hereinziehen lassen? Noch mehr beschäftigen Albert die Schicksalsgeheimnisse seiner Eltern. Er steckt in einer Sinnkrise, seit er weiß, dass sein Leben das Resultat eines traurigen Zufalls ist. Schlüsselfigur ist Nori, die Auserwählte seines Vaters, die im osteuropäischen Nationalkommunismus wegen ihrer sozialen Herkunft diskriminiert und aus der Gesellschaft aussortiert wurde. Sie ließ sich aber nicht unterkriegen und träumte von einem freien Leben auf einer Insel der Glückseligen. Albert misst dieser Liebe, der er seine Existenz verdankt, eine übergeordnete Bedeutung bei. Er ist geneigt zu glauben, dass sie einem höheren Zweck diente. Die Geschichten von Jens, Nori, Albert und ihren Familien verweben sich zu einem vielstimmigen Roman über existenzielle Verunsicherung in einer von Massenwanderungen, völkischen Anfeindungen und ethnisch-sozialer Selektion geprägten Zeit.
About the Author: Viktor Brenner ist Journalist, hat in Tübingen Medienwissenschaft studiert und lebt derzeit in Nürnberg. Sein erster Roman "Fluchangst - Aberwitz und Aberglaube" ist 2017 erschienen.
