About the Book

This is an open access proceeding book of 9th European-Japanese Cerebrovascular Congress at Milan 2018. Since many experts from Europe and Japan had very important and fruitful discussion on the management of Cerebrovascular diseases, the proceeding book is very attractive for the physician and scientists of the area.


About the Author: TBAPD Dr. med. Giuseppe Esposito, PhD is a senior physician at the Department of Neurosurgery, Clinical Neuroscience Center, University Hospital Zurich, University of Zurich. Dr. Esposito graduated at Catholic University in Rome in Italy, where he also completed his neurosurgical training (A. Gemelli Hospital) and obtained his PhD in Neuroscience. He followed a Cerebrovascular Fellowship at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Medical Center, Rudolf Magnus Institute of Neuroscience, Utrecht, the Netherlands. Thereafter he became a physician at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospital Zurich. Since 2019 he is Privat Dozent at University of Zurich. Dr. Esposito is a cerebrovascular specialist with a particular interest in cerebral revascularization surgery. He has been co-chair of the last two European-Japanese Cerebrovascular Congresses (EJCVC) in Zurich 2016 and in Milan 2018.
Luca Regli studied Medicine at the University of Lausanne, he trained with Nicolas de Tribolet and obtained board certification in neurosurgery. At the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA he specialized in the microsurgical treatment of complex intracranial lesions. In 2008 he was called as a full professor and chairman of neurosurgery at the University Medical Center of Utrecht, the Netherlands. In 2012 the University of Zurich nominated him as full professor and the University Hospital Zurich invited him to chair the department of neurosurgery, following into the steps of famous predecessors of Prof. Krayenbuehl, Prof. Yasargil, Prof. Yonekawa and Prof. Bertalanffy, which is a renowned international reference center for cerebrovascular diseases, neuro-oncology and functional neurosurgery. Luca Regli has developed his research interests driven by clinical questions in the domain of cerebral ischemia, cerebral metabolism, cerebral homeostasis and edema as well as in cutting-edge surgical techniques for cerebral revascularization and intra-operative imaging. The academic activity is reflected in over 265 publications in peer reviewed journals and 18 chapters in textbooks. As one of the worldwide leading experts in neurosurgery he is regularly invited as speaker at meetings all over the world. The clinical expertise is reflected in the daily management of patients with cerebrovascular lesions as well as brain tumors. He has personally treated microsurgically more than 1000 patients with cerebral aneurysms. As a recognized leading expert for management of vascular lesions he regularly gets referrals of patients with complex vascular lesions.
Cenzato Marco, MD

Prof. Dr. Yasuhiko Kaku is Chair of department of Neurosurgery and Director of Stroke Center, Asahi University Hospital, Gifu, Japan since 2005. He started his neurosurgical training at department of Neurosurgery, Gifu University Hospital in 1984. He worked at National Cardiovascular Center, Suita, Japan as a neurosurgical resident (1988-1991), and as a staff neurosurgeon (1991-1992). After working for two years (1996-1998) as a clinical fellow at department of Neurosurgery, University of Zürich (Prof. Yonekawa), he became an assistant Professor of department Neurosurgery, Gifu University, Gifu, Japan (1998 - 2001), and associate Professor (2001-2004). He moved to department of Neurosurgery, Asahi University Hospital as Professor and Chair of Neurosurgery, and Director of Stroke Center since 2005.^He was Co-chair of following Conference; 8th European-Japanese Cerebrovascular Congress at Zurich, Switzerland 2016; 9th European-Japanese Cerebrovascular Congress at Milano, Italy 2018; Tanaka Michihiro, MD, PhD. Prof. Dr. Michihiro Tanaka is Director of the Endovascular Neurosurgery in the department of Kameda Medical Center, which is one of the largest private hospitals in Japan. He graduated from National Yamanashi University School of Medicine in 1991. He started the neurosurgical training at Yokohama City University School of Medicine and later worked in the Department of Neurosurgery of National Cardiovascular Center in Osaka. He worked from 1998 to 2004 in the Department of Neuroradiology of the University Hospital of Zurich in Switzerland with Prof. Anton Valavanis. He started as a clinical fellow and later worked as an associated professor in Zurich. He moved to Japan and started the Neuroendovascular Surgery in Kameda Medical Center in 2004. He also served as a member of the WFITN (World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology) Executive Committee, from 2015-17 as Member at Large, from 2017-19 as Secretary General, and from 2017 to the present as Vice President. He is also one of the members of Executive Committee of JSNET (Japanese Society of Neuroendovascular Therapy). His academic fields are the functional vascular anatomy of the CNS and the embryological anatomy. He published the related articles regarding the angioarchitecture of the brain arteriovenous malformations and the embryological aspect of the dural arteriovenous fistulas.

Prof. Dr. Tetsuya Tsukahara is Director of the Brain and Nerve Center, and Vice President of National Hospital Organization (NHO) Kyoto Medical Center, Japan. He graduated from Kyoto University School of Medicine in 1979 and completed Doctoral course of Kyoto University School of Medicine (Ph. D of Kyoto University School of Medicine) in 1986. He started his neurosurgical training at Department of Neurosurgery, Kyoto University Hospital in 1979. After working for two years (1986-1988) as a research fellow at Department of Neurosurgery, University of Virginia (Prof. Kassell), he became a staff Neurosurgeon of Department Cerebrovascular surgery, National Cardiovascular Center Japan (Prof. Y. Yonekawa) in 1988. He moved to Kyoto as a Director, Department of Neurosurgery, National Hospital Organization (NHO) Kyoto Medical Center in 1997. He has been a Clinical Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, Kyoto University since 2014. He is one of the founding members of European-Japanese Joint Conference on Stroke Surgery and was Co-chair of following Conference: 4th European-Japanese Joint Conference on Stroke Surgery at Helsinki, Finland 2008; 5th European-Japanese Joint Conference on Stroke Surgery at Düsseldorf, Germany 2010; 6th European-Japanese Stroke Surgery Conference at Utrecht, The Netherlands 2012; 7th European-Japanese Stroke Surgery Conference at Verona, Italy 2014; 8th European-Japanese Cerebrovascular Congress at Zurich, Switzerland 2016; 9th European-Japanese Cerebrovascular Congress at Milano, Italy 2018; 10th European-Japanese Cerebrovascular Congress at Kyoto, Japan 2020
