Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Frauen könn(t)en führen. Auch in den österreichischen Medien häufen sich Berichte über Karriere- und „Power"-Frauen. Mit jedem weiteren Beitrag über „women on top" wird die landläufige Meinung bekräftigt, Frauen könnten heute jede Führungsetage ihrer Wahl erobern: ob in Wirtschaftsunternehmen, in der Politik, in der Wissenschaft oder in den Medien. Karriere erscheint als eine Frage individueller Fähigkeiten und persönlicher Wahl. Der Schein trügt. Die Arbeitsmarktstatistik spricht eine andere Sprache als es die Schlagzeilen über die gefragten Führungsfrauen und die berufliche Chancengleichheit tun. Obwohl Frauen längst Bildungsdefizite aufholen, ja ihre männlichen Konkurrenten überholen, erwarten sie im Beruf Probleme der „Nicht-Karriere" und der „Gläsernen Decke". Ziel der nachstehenden Diplomarbeit soll deshalb sein, die Ursachen der Unterrepräsentation von Frauen in Führungspositionen zu durchleuchten aber auch Wege aufzuzeigen, wie Frauen es im Beruf schaffen können, die Karriereleiter hinaufzuklettern. Die Arbeit gliedert sich in sieben Hauptabschnitte, über welche an dieser Stelle ein grober Überblick gegeben wird. Ich möchte hier am Beginn dieser Arbeit erwähnen, dass absichtlich nicht nur Daten von Führungspositionen einbezogen wurden, sondern auch generell auf die Darstellung der Position von Frauen am Arbeitsmarkt Wert gelegt wurde, da eine Unterrepäsentation in den weiter unten angesiedelten Hierarchieebenen erst recht zu derselben in höheren Ebenen führen kann. Gang der Untersuchung: Der erste Abschnitt will in die Problematik einführen, indem generelle Begriffsdefinitionen über Führung, Management und Karriere abgeklärt werden. Das zweite Kapitel lichtet die gegenwärtige Arbeitslage der österreichischen Frauen am Arbeitsmarkt ab. Es geht hierbei um die statistische Repräsentation von Frauen am (Führungs-)Arbeitsmarkt sowie um Daten des Bildungsniveaus, des Einkommens oder des Arbeitsinhaltes. Ausführlich wird im dritten
