In a world where multiple races vie for dominance, technology might mean the difference between survival and extinction.
Lucar, human captain of the Iverian Guard, has just learned a hard lesson: Bravery and sacrifice cannot prevail over treachery and a chi'tan army wielding weapons beyond understanding.
Captured by his enemies, Lucar has lost everything-his nation, his pride, and his family. Then he meets Kaêle, chi'tan commodore of the Black Fleet of Tumlanê. Determined to pay a life debt to the Iverians, Kaêle is willing to fight her own people to save what little remains of Iver.
Rescued from captivity by a woman with the face of his enemies, Lucar must choose between vengeance and safeguarding the ragtag group of Iverian refugees Kaêle has assembled. Pursued by one of the chi'tan worshipers who betrayed him, Lucar needs to assemble his fellow survivors into a fighting force. But if the might of the Iverian army has failed against the chi'tan, what chance does a band of half-starved women and children have?
A unique mix of historical and fantasy elements, Trials of Iver: Desolation is comparable to the works of Harry Turtledove mixed with a dash of Jean M. Auel.
