About the Book

Truth & Absurdities is a random collection of biographical snapshots of my and my family's lives as we react to the onslaught of events shaped by the good and bad of the American experience - past and present Truth and Absurdities is also a collection of cultural and political observations and opinions of the phony obstructions that's created to keep us confused and to prevent our chance at harmony and progress. I could have named the book absurdities; that is where I want the focus to go. This book is to undermine underline, contrast and mock the crazy things some people say and do. An absurdity is a thing that is so extremely unreasonable, that it's foolish and should not be taken seriously. The word Absurdity derives from the Latin absurdum meaning "out of tune", therefore irrational. Absurdities are all around us; we experience it from all 3 branches of our government, we see it in the media; it's in the way we run our schools and police departments, Absurdities come out of our health and judicial systems - absurdities are everywhere all around us. Some people are eating this foolishness up because it confirms their own distorted sense of reality - people are going crazy - I point this out in the book. This is how a celebratory fist-bump between the president and Mrs. Obama becomes reported by crazy people to crazy people as a secret terrorist fist-bump. This is why the freedom to bear arms now also means we have to continue to suffer all the tragic school shootings and have gun laws that even allow a 9 year old girl to have access to powerful firearms for recreational purposes. Absurdity is why a young black man who had been searched twice can die with his hands cuffed behind his back in the back of a police car and the policemen thinks that's it reasonable to explain that the young man somehow produced a gun and committed suicide while they drove him to the station house. Absurdity is what makes a good portion of the country opposed to measures that would benefit them just because it is proposed by a president they despise. Absurdity is how Corporations get to be considered the same as people. Absurdity is watching reality stand on its head while we sit on our hands and do nothing. Truth & Absurdities is a denunciation of the irrationalities that has befallen too many white people since the election of Barack Obama as president. In this book I use my own brand of sarcasm to unmask the malaise of exaggerated malarkey poisoning much of Middle America. Truth & Absurdities is an organic collection of my reflections on a variety of issues. These writings have appeared over time in an assortment of publications, Essence magazine, the New York Times, and other anthologies and publications. I ask you to join a word-of-mouth campaign to make this book a great success. It would be a good thing for a reality based world if this book was widely read, widely talked about and widely understood.
