About the Book

This is a clearly structured and detailed source of reference on the practice and procedure relating to competition law enforcement in the UK. It describes all of the relevant procedural mechanisms in place for dealing with competition related cases, from the extent to which an individual is required to co-operate with an authority in an investigation, to providing advice on which authority to approach to blow the whistle on an undiscovered cartel. As former Office of Fair Trading officials who were closely involved in the UK implementation of the EC competition law modernisation regulation, the authors share with the reader their extensive inside knowledge of how the new UK competition procedures are intended to work.

About the Author:
Elizabeth O'Neill works in the European Division at Treasury Solicitors, where she deals exclusively with litigation before the ECJ and CFI. Before joining Treasury Solicitors she was a Principal Case Officer at the Office of Fair Trading, where she was closely involved in the UK implementation of the EC competition law modernization regulation.

Emma Scaife is a Senior Associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in the Dispute Resolution department, London. She provides general commercial litigation services (with a developing involvement in the pharmaceuticals sector) and has a specialized knowledge of contentious competition law. Before Emma's employment at Freshfields, she worked at the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) in Competition Enforcement Policy. She was involved in three major projects at the OFT: working with both the DTI and Parliamentary Counsel on proposed legislative changes to the Competition Act 1998; preparing a new package of OFT guidelines for UK business; and managing a "presentations team" to deliver training on the new legislation to approximately 200 OFT staff. In addition to these projects, Emma also represented the OFT in the work of the European Competition Network, which comprised all the national competition authorities of the EU Member States as well as the European Commission.
