This comprehensive, highly didactic book on ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia (peripheral, neuraxial and perineuraxial nerve blocks) presents meticulously labelled images, diagrams and picture-in-picture samples and includes high-quality, vignetted illustrations that are consistent in style. The ultrasound images are outstanding and carefully selected to demonstrate the most clinically relevant situations. Importantly, they have a real-world appearance, including actual needle paths and desired disposition of injectate during nerve block procedures; most are from the original database of Dr. Eisenberg. All the supplementary material is authoritative and presented as an artful balance of years of clinical experience and a summary of the peer reviewed literature.
Ultrasound in Peripheral, Neuraxial and Perineuraxial Regional Anaesthesia, accompanied by richly illustrated material and videos of state-of-the-art techniques, is of interest to anyone interested in learning, furthering their existing knowledge of, or teaching ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia.
About the Author: Dr. Eryk Eisenberg graduated in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in 1998 (University of Clermont-Ferrand). After a 2-year Fellowship in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, he joined the anesthesia team at a private hospital in 2000. Specialized in regional anesthesia, he undertook training in ultrasound (2003-2004). Since 2006 he has been the president of the organizing committee of the Ateliers d'Echographie en Anesthésie (AEA) meeting, the annual event for anesthesiologists dealing with ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, which was created in 2006 together with Dr. Elisabeth Gaertner. Dr Eisenberg has been involved in numerous national and international meetings (lectures and trainings), and he quickly became regarded as one of the most competent referees in the use of ultrasound in regional anesthesia. Dr. Eisenberg is the co-author, together with Dr. Gaertner, of the book Echographie en Anesthésie Régionale Périphérique, the first French book dedicated to this technique (1st edition 2007 published by Ed. Arnette, Wolters-Kluwer ISBN 978-2-7184-1138-5; 2nd edition 2014 by Ed. Arnette - John Libbey Eurotext ISBN 978-2-7184-1338-9).
Dr. Elisabeth Gaertner graduated with an M.D. in 1985 from Strasbourg University, France, and undertook training in anesthesiology at the same university. After working at the University Hospital of Strasbourg, she moved to the University Hospital in Nice then Paris. Her teaching and research interests include ultrasound-guided nerve blockade, particularly in ambulatory surgery, such as the management of ambulatory patients with perineural catheters. She has published a number of books and articles on regional anesthesia. She works for different scientific societies (national and international societies of anesthesiology and ambulatory surgery). Recently she moved to Colmar, where she is the head of Anesthesia and the Intensive Care Department.
