About the Author: Who am I? Well even at the age of 37 I'm still not sure. Do we ever really understand who we are?. I have set many goals, achieved some and failed others. I listened at school and even now I still listen and learn from the old man through my garden fence. That is the one thing I am sure of, I have ambition, I strive to compete and challenge myself physically and mentally. Originally from Colchester in Essex, England I grew up in a large dis-functional family along with the majority, rising through the ranks of a rough council estate finding seven siblings along the way. Despite achieving the required grades, college and university education in Graphic Design, something was missing. Who was I? Ironically it was working in Graphic Design that changed my life. Having been directed to a police recruiting website to check out it's use of an interactive scenario questionnaire, my addiction to listening and learning kicked in and I actually read through and absorbed the scenarios and took them to heart. For example one of them referred to yourself as being a member of the public walking past an alley way to which you see an old lady being threatened by a man with a large knife and asks the question what would you do? Now obviously there were a choice of multiple answers, however this did not satisfy me. What would I do? Would I turn a blind eye? Would I challenge this man to stop? or would I even physically risk my own life defending someone I had never even met before?. So no, I was not bullied or abused as a child, I was not a power freak, I did not want to eat doughnuts for a living, or tell people off for speeding, I simply wanted to know if I had anything special in me that could benefit other people. How far could I push myself mentally, what could my body and mind take, what would I do if someone tried to kill me or someone else. Well for the last 15 years being a police sergeant I have found out on more occasions than I care to remember. I have seen into the darkest depths of society and an underworld that only those victims and those involved will ever begin to understand. However out of this I have seen that the strongest and most important building blocks for our society is our children. Having lost a young child, grandparents and recently my mother within our family, I am clear that family and love is more important than anything the world has to offer. If these books, bring smiles, happiness and families together, that is all I can ask for.
