Im Rahmen der Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), also der gesellschaftlichen Verantwortung von Unternehmen, stellt die soziale Dimension, neben der ökologischen und der ökonomischen, eine von 3 tragenden Säulen der Nachhaltigkeit dar. Die Debatte um die Ausgestaltung der sozialen Verantwortung von Unternehmen beschäftigt neben der Politik auch sämtliche Stakeholder eines Unternehmens und ist dadurch sehr aktuell. Seit Beginn der 1980er Jahre beschäftigen sich immer mehr Unternehmen aus verschiedenen Gründen und in unterschiedlicher Ausprägung mit der sozialen Dimension der Nachhaltigkeit. Was damit begann, dass Unternehmer Wohnungen oder erste Krankenversicherungen für ihre Mitarbeiter bereitstellten, hat heute eine deutlich weitergehende Gestalt angenommen. Diese Komplexität drückt sich in der Vielfalt der Organisationen und Initiativen aus, die sich mit dem Thema beschäftigen. So gibt es nicht nur verschiedene Leitsätze zum sozialen Handeln von Unternehmen, sondern neben den Standards zur Berichterstattung über die Tätigkeiten auch verschiedene Rankings, welche die Unternehmen nach ihren eigenen Kriterien beurteilen. Gerade in Zeiten eines Arbeitnehmermarktes und stärker aufkommenden Diskussionen rund um die Nachhaltigkeit ist es für Unternehmen unerlässlich, sich mit diesem Thema auseinanderzusetzen, um sich im Rennen um die wenigen Fachkräfte auf dem Arbeitsmarkt von anderen Firmen abheben zu können.Dieser Leitfaden entstand im Rahmen einer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit an der TU Hamburg-Harburg und soll eine unterstützende Wirkung und ein Überblick über die Thematik sein, um Unternehmen den Einstieg in das sozial nachhaltige Handeln zu erleichtern. Hierzu wird eine Rangliste erstellt, die aufzeigt, welche sozialen Kernthemen in den verschiedensten vorhandenen Initiativen am häufigsten behandelt werden. Zudem wird ein Vorgehen zum Einstieg in die soziale Nachhaltigkeit aufgezeigt.
