Anfang der 50er Jahre setzte eine Tendenz zur Formalisierung wirtschaftswissen- schaftlicher Aufgabenstellungen ein, in deren Rahmen zunachst relativ einfach strukturierte Probleme mit vornehmlich deterministischen Beziehungen zwischen einer verhaltnismoBig kleinen Zahl von Entscheidungsvariablen erfaBt wurden. Die untersuchten Systeme zeichneten sich durch den statischen Charakter ihrer Elemente, ihren hohen Grad an Geschlossenheit sowie - wenn nicht durch exakt definierte Relationen zwischen ihren Variablen - so doch durch hinreichend genau definierbare Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilung aus. 1m Vordergrund der Unternehmensforschung standen die dem mathematischen KalkOI leichter zugonglicheren Probleme der Produktion und der Lagerhaltung. Man nahm Aufgabenstellungen in Angriff, bei denen das zu optimierende Ziel als eindeutig definierte Skalarfunktion (i. d. R. Kostenminimierung) beschrieben werden konnte. Die Konsequenzen alternativer Handlungsweisen wurden ent- weder als eindeutig bestimmt oder mit bekannter Wahrscheinlichkeitsfunktion unterstellt. Entscheidungen unter Unsicherheit wurden weitgehend aus der Analyse betrieblicher Prozesse ausgeklammert. Das Erfordernis einer bekannten Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilung der Ergebnisse der Inputvariablen verhinderte die Anwendung der vorgeschlagenen Verfahren in Situationen, in denen der fOr die Entscheidung Verantwortliche nur eine vage Vorstellung von der Wahrschein- lichkeit des Eintritts alternativer Ereignisse hegt. Externe EinfiOsse wurden als bekannt unterstellt bzw. nicht in den mathematisch fundierten Entscheidungs- prozeB einbezogen. Die entwickelten Modelle basierten primor auf den Opti- mierungsverfahren der Algebra, insbesondere auf den Prinzipien der Marginal- analyse. Ziel dieser BemOhungen ist es gewesen, der Unternehmensleitung objektive Entscheidungsgrundlagen fOr den bestmoglichen Einsatz der verfOg- baren Produktionsfaktoren bereitzustellen. Den Fragen des betrieblichen Absatzes wurde in den Anfangsjahren der Unter- nehmensforschung bis auf wenige Ausnahmen keine Beachtung geschenkt.
