In einschlägigen Lexika der narratologischen Terminologie, in propädeutischen Handbüchern und in zahlreichen erzähltheoretischen Studien finden sich Definitionen des Begriffs 'unreliable narration', doch mangelt es abgesehen von vielen Aufsätzen zu einzelnen Autoren und Romanen an fundierten Studien zur Theorie, Praxis und Geschichte des 'unglaubwürdigen Erzählens'. Die unzuverlässige Erzählinstanz führt in die Irre und fordert den Rezipienten zu einem Spiel auf: Zum Spiel mit der Täuschung und mit der Hinterfragung der eigenen Wahrnehmung. Dieser nimmt die Herausforderung bereitwillig an. Für die Literatur funktioniert dies ebenso wie für die Leinwand. Daher erfreuen sich die Kinofilme und nicht zuletzt auch die TV-Produktionen großer Beliebtheit, die unzuverlässiges Bildmaterial einsetzen. Die Fragen, die das Gebiet des unzuverlässigen Erzählens aufwirft, sind sowohl in der Film- als auch in der Literaturwissenschaft trotz mannigfaltiger Essays und Publikationen zum Thema noch nicht klar beantwortet worden. So gibt nach wie vor noch keine detaillierten und systematischen Aussagen darüber, warum ein Rezipient die Erzählinstanzen gewisser Texte als unzuverlässig einstuft. Daher befasst sich diese Magisterarbeit mit der systematischen Zusammenstellung des aktuellen theoretischen Diskussionsstandes und seiner Anwendbarkeit auf den Film: - Was bedeutet 'unzuverlässiges Erzählen'? - Welche Kriterien liegen dem zugrunde? - Auf welcher Grundlage wird ein Unverlässlichkeits¬urteil gefällt? - Welche medienspezifischen Charakteristika lassen sich kategorisieren? - Inwiefern unterscheiden sich die einzelnen theoretischen Ansätze?
