About the Author: Mohsen Aboulnaga has more than thirty five years of experience in higher education, government, senior management, and consultancy in Sustainable Energy, including energy efficiency and renewable energy, energy policy development, and green cities as well as climate change adaptation and academic positions. Dr Aboulnaga is a Professor of Sustainable Built Environment at Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University and Government Strategy and Policy Adviser. He is a registered Expert at the UNESCO - Inclusive Policy Lab., Paris and an Associate and Senior Consultant - Strategy and Sustainable Development at Oil and Gas Skills (OGS), Ministry of Petroleum, Egypt. Dr Aboulnaga is also an Associate Expert at the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE). In addition, he is an expert on sustainability and green urban development, sustainable development, and sustainable built environment, including energy efficiency, green building and smart cities in developing countries as well as the Gulf region and worldwide. His areas of competency include strategy planning, policy development, low-carbon society, green cities and sustainable building as well as renewable energy and climate change. Other areas of expertise include executive capacity building and coaching training on strategic planning and leadership; develop vision and strategic goals and action plans. Between December 2014 and April 2018, Dr Aboulnaga has been appointed by the European Union and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFAs) in two capacities for the Clean Energy Savings Mediterranean Cities (CES-MED) project, a funded project by the European Union (2013-2018). Between October 2015 and September 2016, Dr Aboulnaga has been appointed the National Senior Expert for the Human Dynamics Consortium - KG to develop the CES-MED National Recommendations Report (NRR) on Sustainable Urban and Energy Savings Actions for Egypt, as part of CES-MED project, a report was officially published in September 2016. In October 2016, he has been appointed by EU and MoFAs through Transition Strategy Consultant Paris - France, as the Senior Expert for of CES-MED project in Egypt to develop the Sustainable Energy Savings Climate Action Plan (SECAP) for the Governorate of Red Sea and Governorate of Luxor - Egypt; both SECAP reports were officially published in March 2018. Obliquely, Dr Aboulnaga has been invited in the capacity of a Senior Expert and participated in the 5th Steering Committee Meeting (5th of May), as part of the framework of the European Union funded projects "Cleaner and Energy Saving Mediterranean Cities" (CES-MED) and "Sustainable Urban Demonstration Energy Projects" (SUDEP), and the high-level conference on the Role of Local Authorities in Sustainable Energy Al-Skhirat, Morocco from 4th to 7th May, 2015. Furthermore, Dr Aboulnaga is a Senior Expert on Sustainable Urban Development and Green cities at the Union for Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona. In December 2013, he represented RCREEE and participated in a high-level meeting at European Commission - Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC) in Ispra, Italy and contributed and reviewed the Sustainable Energy Guidebook for the EU ENPI-South countries. Dr Aboulnaga holds an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Green Professionals, USA. He is also an Associate Partner at European Sustainable Development Network (ESDN), Austria since 2010; and a registered expert with UNEP and ESCWA since 1997. Finally, on July 31, 2018 he received a Special Award of the World Renewable Energy Network (WREN), Brighton - England, UK; for his contributions in the field of Renewable Energy and Sustainable Building during the past 25 years.
