Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: 1960 wurde in Japan unter dem Namen "Felt tip pen" das erste Schreibgerät mit einem Faserspeicher für die Tinte und einem Faserdocht zur Auftragung auf Papier vorgestellt. Einige Produktionsstückzahlen aus dem Jahre 1991 sollen die heutige Marktbedeutung von Faserschreiben verdeutlichen /3b/: Weltproduktion: 6. 500 Millionen Stück / a. West Deutschland: 620 Millionen Stück / a. USA / Kanada: 1.300 Millionen Stück / a. Faserspeicher bestehen aus einer großen Zahl paralleler Fasern, die durch Kapillarität Flüssigkeiten aufnehmen und speichern können. Mit Hilfe von Dochten, d. h. kleiner Faserbündel größerer Kapillarität, kann die Flüssigkeit gezielt bei Bedarf entnommen werden. Dieses Prinzip findet Anwendung in der Schreibwarenherstellung (Faserschreibern u.ä.), bei Speichern für Drucker und in der Kosmetikindustrie. Faserschreiber zeichnen sich aus durch geringe Materialmengen und gute Tintenausnutzung, d. h. konstante Abgabemenge und geringe Restmenge. Aus ökologischen Gründen sind Systeme aus einem Werkstoff anzustreben, weil dann ein Recycling möglich ist. Polypropylen wird für verschiedene Schreiberkomponenten schon länger verwendet, während es als Fasermaterial neu ist. Die ersten Anwendungen verlaufen erfolgversprechend, zumal sich durch die geringe Dichte, verglichen mit anderen Kunststoffen, Material einsparen läßt. Die Funktionsweise und Eigenschaften von Faserspeichern und Faserschreibern sind noch nicht vollständig wissenschaftlich untersucht und beschrieben worden. Ein Teilbereich ist die Ermittlung von Fasereigenschaften, wobei Ansätze aus der Faser- und Textilindustrie übernommen werden können. Für Faserschreiber ist die Faserfeinheit interessant, weil diese und die Form die Größe der Zwischenräume beeinflußt. Je kleiner diese sind, desto höher steigt die Flüssigkeit darin, d. h. die Kapillarität ist größer.
