Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2023 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Komparatistik, Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft, Note: 1,0, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Philologie (Komparatistik)), Veranstaltung: Samuel Beckett, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Verhältnis von Komik und Tragik in Samuel Becketts "En attendant Godot" und "Fin de partie" soll den zentralen Gegenstand dieser Hausarbeit darstellen. Hierzu werden Wladimir und Estragon zunächst mit der trägen, aber auch komischen Figur Belacqua aus dem Purgatorium in Dante Alighieris "Göttlicher Komödie" verglichen sowie eine enge Verbindung zwischen ihnen und der traditionellen Figur des Clowns herausgestellt. Auch Pozzo und Lucky scheinen Parallelen zu clownesken Figuren aufzuweisen, weshalb sie ebenfalls genauer beleuchtet werden. So lustig dieser Zirkus, den Beckett hier präsentiert, auch sein mag, so bringt er dennoch seine Nachteile mit sich: Das Lachen, welches beim Leser oder Publikum entstehen soll, ist nicht immer auf durch Pantomime-Einlagen oder Clownspiele erzeugte Komik zurückzuführen; diese mündet an einigen Stellen vielmehr in grotesker Überspitzung in die Darstellung von absurder Tragik, wie z.B. der seltsamen (nicht-)vergehenden Zeit und der Ausweglosigkeit, was eher einen schwarzen Humor voraussetzt. Godot ist jedoch nicht das einzige Stück Becketts, welches eine Kombination aus Komödie und Tragödie darstellt: Auch das - auf den ersten Blick rein tragische - "Fin de partie" weist komische Elemente, etwa die clownesken Interaktionen zwischen den Figuren Hamm und Clov, auf. Doch während im erstgenannten Stück die eher lockere und spaßige Seite zu dominieren scheint, überwiegt hier offensichtlich doch die düstere, vom Verfall geprägte Tragik. Ein Vergleich dieser beiden sehr unterschiedlich wirkenden, bei genauerer Betrachtung aber doch eine Vielzahl an Parallelen aufweisenden Dramen wird in dieser Hausarbeit aufgestellt.
