Sadie had been looking forward to being sixteen after watching all those movies with her mom. She'd dreamed of high school drama, friends, flirtations, parties-even homework looked like it might be fun. But it's kinda hard to go to school when you live on the run from a villainous cult Mom thinks has magic powers.
Yeah, that's crazy, but Mom is her best friend, and Sadie loves her. It's not so bad. Sadie works to help them get by and does the school stuff at home. At least, until Mom gets a feeling the scary people-Progeny-are close, and they have to skip town. Again.
But this time when they run, Sadie loses Mom in a terrible accident that had to be...magic. Sadie is scared and alone, and full of questions. Who is Progeny really, and why would they hurt her mom? And how did they do it?
It looks like maybe Mom was right, and magic is...real?
Sadie's search for answers leads her to a prep school tucked away in an ancient monastery. Colonial Academy has a lake, and horses, and kids that seem like they might be friends material. It would be a dream come true- if it hadn't cost Sadie dearly to get there.
And if they weren't keeping a demon trapped in the basement.
The people at Colonial have sworn to keep the evil from breaking free and enslaving humanity with its power-hungry descendants-Progeny.
When it looks like Sadie may be the one person able to finally destroy the Demon, how much more can she give up on the possibility of freeing her new friends from their dangerous mission, and maybe even saving the world?
