En esta nueva era, inaugurada el 11 de septiembre de 2001, la definicion de la guerra ha dejado de ser un problema academico, para convertirse en un tema de importancia geopolitica. Herfried Munkler es profesor de Ciencias Politicas en la Universidad Humboldt de Berlin y miembro de la Academia de Ciencias de Berlin-Brandeburgo. Ha publicado numerosos estudios relacionados con la historia de las ideas politicas y con la teoria de la guerra. Algunos de sus libros se han convertido en obras de referencia como Maquiavelo (1982) y Gewalt und Ordnung (1992). "Munkler ofrece multiples e interesantes interpretaciones.
