Länder - Neuzeit, Absolutismus, Industrialisierung, Note: 2,0, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Einleitung Kitzingen im Jahr 1614. Die Honoratioren der Stadt entschließen sich aufgrund der teuren Anschaffungskosten, eine Zeitung in einem gemeinsamen Abonnement zu bestellen und somit die enormen Anschaffungskosten auf die Schultern von mehreren wohlhabenden Bürgern zu verteilen. Die ca. 15 Mitglieder, unter ihnen der Stadtvogt, fünf Pastoren, der Dekan, der Diakon, ein Ratsherr, ein Arzt, ein Advokat und der Schulmeister, geben sich noch im selben Jahr eine eigene Satzung, in der sie die genaue Umlaufzeit der Zeitung, die oft nicht mehr als eine Stunde beträgt, und die genaue Reihenfolge in der Verschickung festlegen. Der spiritus rector dieser Vereinugung ist der Postmeister Pankraz Müller, an den auch die Gebühren von einem halben Taler zu zahlen sind.1 Die "Zeitungskompagnie" zu Kitzingen besteht nur zehn Jahre. Doch kann den Kitzingern attestiert werden, dass sie ihrer Zeit weit voraus waren. Die große Stunde der Lesegesellschaften, deren Sinn und Zweck es war, die hohen Kosten für (abstrakt formuliert, aber ganz im Sinne der aufgeklärten Bürger) Bildung so gering wie möglich zu halten, kam mit ihren vielfältigen Ausformungen und in ihren verschiedenen Stadien erst rund 150 Jahre später. Sie prägte für etwa ein halbes Jahrhundert die Zeit des ersten bürgerlichen Aufbegehrens gegen Adel und Klerus. Um sich das Revolutionäre oder, weniger drastisch ausgedrückt, Neue an dieser Entwicklung klar zu machen, muss man sich auch die Verhältnisse in der ständisch geprägten Welt vor und um 1750 vor Augen führen (Abschnitt 1). Bildung, also grob gesagt die Kompetenz zum Lesen und Schreiben, lag im berufsspezifischem Metier der Akademiker und Literaten; der Umgang mit der Schrift und deren Beherrschung war lange Zeit das Privileg einiger Weniger, zumeist aus dem Klerus.
