About the Book

English summary: This richly illustrated volume offers a unique history and analysis of Chinese narrative painting. From its beginnings, inspired in particular by the life of the Buddha, narrative painting continued under the Song dynasty, and experienced considerable renewal under the Ming. Seven texts present particular works tracing the history of this genre, commenting specific paintings and offering essential keys for understanding their contributions and influences.
