About the Book

How does an over-sheltered, idealistic, hormone-driven young woman from the streets of the Bronx New York, manage to grow up in spite of herself? This fictionalized memoir of a woman who was constantly, "Coming of Age" is a delightful read, filled with amusing and sometimes melancholy anecdotes of a woman's search for contentment. Readers will find both pathos and humor in the travails of this woman who strives to find someone who will "love her best" but experiences constant disillusionment on her journey through life. This is the first book authored by Phyllis Hoag, who divides her time between Indio, California and Tucson, Arizona, accompanied by her two beloved puppies Panda and Pekoe, as well as her dear "Sam."
About the Author: Having earned a BA in English Literature from Hunter College in New York, and an MA In English Lit from San Jose State University, Phyllis Hoag spent thirty-three years as an educator. Her career included sixteen years on the elementary level, a touch of teaching English and Philosophy on the secondary level, a stint as a School Librarian and Computer Lab Media Teacher and ten years as a Resource Teacher for the Learning Handicapped. Ms. Hoag likes variety which explains her treks to exotic places, her eclectic interests and her diverse teaching experience. She has served as chief writer and then editor of a small community newspaper, rescued dogs and spends her retirement practicing hula, Tai Chi, reading and swimming when she is not writing. To date, Phyllis Hoag has completed 3 books: her memoir, "The Warbling of the Worry Bird," a collection of short stories revealing what REALLY goes on in senior communities called "Howling and Chattering of the Elders," and edited a book about rescue dogs in her senior community called "Going to the Dogs."
