Anhand unterschiedlicher Lebenslaufe ersteht die Unterhaltungsbranche in Wien und Berlin in der Zwischenkriegszeit wieder - Sanger, Schauspieler, Schriftsteller und Komponisten waren hier wie da beliebt und gefeiert. Sie inspirierten einander zu wunderbaren Werken, zu Schlagern, Texten und Operetten, die immer ein bisschen zweideutig, oft wehmutig, aber immer unterhaltend sind. "War'n Sie schon mal in mich verliebt?" ist der Titel eines Schlagers von Max Hansen aus dem Jahr 1928, in dem er Hitler als Homosexuellen verspottet. 1933 wurde dieser beliebte und erfolgreiche Star der Operetten- und Kabarettbuhnen daher sofort aus Deutschland vertrieben. In der Zwischenkriegszeit bluhte das Unterhaltungstheater in Wien und Berlin. Kabaretts, Operettentheater, Revuen boten eine Fulle an mitreissenden Melodien, pointierten Conferencen, zweideutigen Chansons. Verfasst, komponiert und dargeboten von den Stars der damaligen Zeit, die sich zwischen den Metropolen und den einzelnen Metiers souveran bewegten und auf den Brettl-Buhnen wie in den Opern- und Theaterhausern in Wien und Berlin zu Hause und umjubelt waren. Zu ihnen zahlten der Operettensanger, Kabarettist und legendare Leopold in Benatzkys "Das weisse Rossl" Max Hansen und der Kabarettist und Filmschauspieler Paul Morgan. Zwei Ereignisse ihrer gemeinsamen Laufbahn haben besondere Bedeutung: 1924 begrundeten sie eines der renommiertesten literarischen Kabaretts Berlins, das Kabarett der Komiker, kurz KadeKo genannt. Es etablierte sich in kurzester Zeit zum beliebten Treffpunkt fur Publikum und Kunstler aus Wien, Berlin und Munchen. 1936 waren Morgan und Hansen bereits aus Berlin vertrieben und fanden sich in Wien noch einmal zusammen fur die Urauffuhrung der Benatzky-Operette "Axel an der Himmelstur". Der Text stammte von Paul Morgan und Hans Weigel, die Hauptrollen verkorperten Max Hansen und die damals noch unbekannte Zarah Leander.
