Das pansophische Denken des Comenius ist von der Überzeugung geprägt, daß die Wirklichkeit sich von der grundlegenden Ebene reinen geistigen Seins über zahlreiche Vermittlungsstufen bis zur erfahrbaren Realität erstreckt. Nicht nur zwischen einzelnen gleichrangigen Seienden, die im Rahmen dieser Ordnung miteinander verknüpft sind, auch und vor allem zwischen den unterschiedlichen Bereichen herrscht schon allein deshalb eine umfassende Parallelität bzw. "Panharmonie", weil das Niedere jeweils im Höheren gründet und dessen Gesetzmäßigkeiten widerspiegelt. In der Via lucis begegnen wir weniger einer vollständig durchgeklärten Erkenntnistheorie als vielmehr einer für Comenius bezeichnenden Weise des Erkennens, die gleichwohl auf ihre Prinzipien hin durchsichtig gemacht werden kann.
About the Author: Johann Amos Comenius wird 1592 in Mähren geboren. Er studiert ab 1611 Philosophie und Theologie in Herborn und Heidelberg. Als Bischof der reformierten Brüdergemeinde muß er in den Wirren des dreißigjährigen Krieges Zuflucht in verschiedenen europäischen Staaten suchen. Seine reformpädagogischen Schriften erreichen Weltruf, so daß der Pädagoge an seinen zahlreichen Wirkungsstätten Lehraufträge erhält. Comenius begründet nicht nur die Pädagogik und Didaktik als eigenständige Disziplin, in Verbindung mit seinen philosophisch-theologischen Überlegungen führt er den Begriff der Pansophie in philosophische Terminologie ein. Die Pforte der Dinge kann dabei als Schlüsseltext seiner philosophischen Anschauungen gelesen werden. Die Vorankündigung der Pansophie erscheint 1637 in England und definiert die Pansophie als vollständige Kenntnis der Dinge in einer umfassenden und kohärenten Weisheit. Wissen dürfe dabei jedoch nicht vom Glauben getrennt werden. Diese Methode des Erkennens wird auch in der Der Weg des Lichts erkennbar. Comenius stirbt im hohen Alter von 78 Jahren in Amsterdam.
