About the Author: Norbert Heinrich Holl studierte in Köln und Paris Jura, wechselte aber nach einer kurzen Zeit als Richter in Köln in den Auswärtigen Dienst. Sein Studium der arabischen Sprache am Middle East Center for Arabic Studies im Libanon schaffte die Voraussetzung für zehn Jahre diplomatische Dienste in verschiedenen islamischen Ländern. 1996 wurde er für zwei Jahre zum Leiter einer UN-Sondermission für Afghanistan berufen. Holl verbringt seinen Ruhestand in der Bretagne. Neben der Diplomatie gehörte seine Leidenschaft schon immer dem Lesen und Schreiben. 2002 berichtete er über seine Afghanistan-Erfahrungen (Mission Afghanistan).
