About the Book

My book is the biographies of four famous political leaders in the history of the United States, dating from the early 1880's to 1970. These four men held greatly different political views and belonged to most of the major political parties in our country. The first, Henry Clay, gave decades of service in the Senate and as Speaker of the House. He also served as Secretary of State and was involved in many of our foreign treaties. He was called "The Great Compromiser" because he could get everybody to agree on an answer. With each of his nominations his ego got worse, and he thought he was God. We are better off that he was defeated in his three runs for the Presidency. Next is the sad and pathetic Williams Jennings Bryan. Historians consider him the stupidest and most incompetent to ever be nominated for President (three times). He babbled nonsense about bimetallism and silver and gold, but his only expertise was on the Bible. He died a complete fool following the famous Scopes Monkey Trial. Our third person was a very intelligent person who gained fame as a prosecutor who put Mafia and other major criminals in jail. His first nomination was a mistake because he was taking on "the champ," Franklin D. Roosevelt. His second nomination was unusual because he was declared the winner from day one, and was shocked by his defeat. His problem was that he turned people off by being cold, stuffy, and standoffish. His opponent was warm, outgoing, and friendly. Our final candidate is now listed as one of the greatest and most brilliant political geniuses in American history. It was a tragedy he was twice defeated by the same mediocre man. In 1962, the world finally realized his genius during the Cuban Missile Crisis when he took on the Soviet Union eyeball-to-eyeball. This book is a fascinating history of American politics and shows ten Presidential nominations given to only four men.
