Im Herbst 2022 erschien der Bestseller Gekränkte Freiheit: Aspekte des libertären Autoritarismus von Carolin Amlinger und Oliver Nachtwey. Sie zeichnen das Bild eines Milieus von Protest, das sich gegen staatliche Übergriffe auf die Freiheit wehrt; behaupten allerdings, dieser libertäre Impuls sei im Kern autoritär. Aber kann es einen libertären Autoritarismus geben? Das vorliegende Buch präsentiert die Antwort eines Libertären auf die Vorwürfe, eines Autors, der seit fünfzig Jahren die libertäre Theorie weiterentwickelt. Ihre Ablehnung des libertären Gedankens fassen Amlinger und Nachtwey so zusammen: Bei den Libertären begegnet uns ein atomares, gleichzeitig unbeschränktes Individuum, das auf (fast) nichts und niemand Rücksicht nimmt außer auf sich selbst. Beispielhaft wird die libertäre Aussage zitiert, friedliche Menschen, die sich nur um ihre Angelegenheiten kümmern, würden keine Rechte anderer verletzen. Sind friedliche Menschen etwa unfähig, eine Gemeinschaft zu bilden, bleiben sie atomar? Und inwiefern könnten friedliche Menschen dazu tendieren, rücksichtslos zu sein? Wenigstens müsste man zugeben, dass dieses unbeschränkte Individuum, soweit es friedlich ist, Rücksicht nimmt auf Mitmenschen, die andre Ansichten, andre Ideen, andre Lebensgewohnheiten, andre Religionen haben, indem es sie in Ruhe ihrer Wege ziehen lässt. Friedliche Menschen beschränken sich auf das, was sie mit freiwilliger Kooperation zu erreichen in der Lage sind. Die Koppelung des friedlichen (libertären) Menschen mit einem autoritären Charakter ist zentrales Anliegen von Amlinger und Nachtwey. Was wäre dann der von ihnen empfohlene Charakter? Könnte denn von einem unfriedlichen Menschen erwartet werden, dass er voll Rücksicht gegenüber den Mitmenschen ist?
