Damit von kooperativem Lernen gesprochen werden kann, müssen bestimmte Voraussetzungen erfüllt sein, um auch eine tatsächliche Kooperation zwischen den Beteiligten stattfinden zu lassen. Deswegen wird in dieser Arbeit zuerst das kooperative Lernen definiert, damit der Gegenstand dieser Arbeit eindeutig festgelegt ist. In Kapitel drei werden die Begründungslinien des kooperativen Arbeitens aufgezeigt, dabei wird sich vor allem an der Ko-Konstruktion orientiert. Dies bekräftigt erneut die Position, dass kooperatives Lernen einen Platz im Unterricht einnehmen sollte. Daraufhin wird das gezeichnete Bild anhand verschiedener Merkmale weiter ausgebaut. Diese sind die Grundsteine für das kooperative Arbeiten und ermöglichen eine Unterscheidung zwischen dieser und anderen Methoden. Kapitel fünf geht auf die Aufgaben des Lehrkörpers beim kooperativen Arbeiten ein, da mit dieser Unterrichtsmethode eine spezielle Rolle der Lehrkraft verbunden ist. Dabei werden einige notwendige Schritte aufgezählt, die eine Lehrperson tätigen muss, um den Anforderungen des kooperativen Lernens gerecht zu werden. Anschließend wird der Forschungsstand des kooperativen Lernens dargestellt, dabei werden Merkmale der Unterrichtsqualität, Kooperationsskripte, die Effektivität des kooperativen Lernens und die Perspektive der Lernenden darauf behandelt. Dieses Kapitel verfolgt das Ziel, die Berechtigung des kooperativen Arbeitens im Unterricht empirisch abzusichern.
