Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Was benötigt wird, ist eine ausgearbeitete Theorie gesellschaftlichen Lernens, die den komplexen Herausforderungen, mit denen sich die Weltgesellschaft zur Jahrtausendwende konfrontiert sieht, bereits in der Anlage ihrer Grundbegriffe gerecht wird. In dieser Arbeit soll das Wagnis unternommen werden, eine solche Theorie zumindest ansatzweise zu entfalten. Gang der Untersuchung: Im einführenden zweiten Kapitel werden die bekannten lerntheoretischen Ansätze aus Psychologie und Soziologie in ihren Hauptmerkmalen vorgestellt und einer "radikalsoziologischen" Kritik unterworfen, die es nahelegt, den Speicher der Lemleistung nicht im Individuum, sondern in den sozialen Systemen selbst zu lokalisieren. Der theoretischen Ansatz, der uns dieses Vorgehen erlaubt, die Theorie sozialer Systeme, wird in seinen Grundzügen im dritten Kapitel präsentiert. Wer vom Lernen handelt, muß ein normativ fundiertes Kriterium angeben können, mittels dessen sich das Lernen von bloßer Veränderung unterscheiden läßt. Zu diesem Zweck rekonstruieren wir im vierten Kapitel Luhmanns neuere Rationalitätskonzeption, die in Auseinandersetzung mit einschlägigen philosophischen und sozialwissenschaftlichen Ansätzen hergeleitet wird. Im fünften Kapitel, das im Zentrum der Arbeit steht, wird der Begriff des "sozialsystemischen Lemens" als solcher in seinen vielfältigen Implikationen entfaltet. Dabei geht es unter anderem um die Differenz von Evolution und Lernen, unterschiedliche Lerntypen und um Mechanismen des Lernens. Der praxisbezogenen Konkretisierung ist das sechste Kapitel gewidmet, in dem das entwickelte Lernmodell auf personenorientierte und organisierte Sozialsysteme sowie das Gesellschaftssystern als solches bezogen wird. Die 'Schlußbetrachtung' gewährt einen Ausblick.
