Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Kunst - Architektur, Baugeschichte, Denkmalpflege, Note: 3,0, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Kunsthistorisches Institut), Veranstaltung: Kirchenbau des Barock und Rokoko, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: 1 Einleitung Barock- und Rokokoaltäre unterscheiden sich in verschiedener Art und Weise voneinander. Wirken Barockaltäre häufig noch wie in den Chor eingestellte 'Möbelstücke', so verbinden sich Altäre des Rokoko mit der Architektur und lassen kaum einen Unterschied erkennen, wo die Architektur des Chores aufhört und der Altar beginnt. Sie gelten als Gesamtkunstwerke, indem sie Skulptur, Malerei und Architektur, aber auch das Licht, miteinander verbinden. Dies ist ein weit verbreitetes Konzept in der Kunst des Rokoko. Seine erste Hochzeit hatte es aber schon im Barock. Ein wichtiger Vorläufer aus dem italienischen Barock ist Gianlorenzo Bernini. Ein Beispiel von ihm, das als Gesamtkunstwerk zu nennen ist, ist die "Verzückung der Heiligen Teresa von Avila" in der Conaro-Kapelle in Santa Maria della Vitoria in Rom. Ein Werk, dass unter seinen Zeitgenossen als Berninis Schönstes angesehen wurde und von dem man sicherlich auch in Süddeutschland gehört hatte. Die folgende Arbeit behandelt das Thema der Hochaltäre im Spätbarock und Rokoko anhand zweier süddeutsche Hochaltäre, die aufgrund ihrer Ausführung dem einen oder dem anderen Stil zugeordnet werden können, obwohl sie innerhalb eines Zeitraumes von 15 Jahren entstanden sind. Als erstes Beispiel wird der Altar der Wieskirche in Steingaden, der zwischen 1745 und 1747 entstanden ist, angeführt. Der Altar der Wallfahrtskirche in Steinhausen von ca. 1732, dient dem Vergleich. Ferner stehen beide Altäre in Kirchen, die von Dominikus Zimmermann entworfen und gebaut worden sind. Die Gesamtkonzeption der Altäre ist ebenfalls auf ihn zurückzuführen, wenn auch die Ausführung bei anderen Künstlern lag. Die zu den Altären gehörenden Deckenfresken sind von seinem Bruder, Johann Baptist Zimmerma
