This book, now in its Second Edition, continues to give a wider and deeper knowledge about various aspects of wind power for electricity generation than the earlier edition. Based on the feedback from different quarters, most of the chapters of this second edition has been enriched and modified. On popular demand from the mechanical engineers, an additional chapter on ‘Gear Systems in Wind Turbines’ has also been added. This revised version will continue to enlighten electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, electronics and civil engineers as well. Needless to say, this will be an asset even to those who already have the first edition of this book.
What do Reviewers say?
“This massive work is a welcome addition to any wind energy library--well illustrated with splendid photographs and drawings that I haven’t seen in any other book. An ardent learner can lucidly understand the basic wind turbine theory, design, and project development. I wish I’d written it!”
—Paul Gipe, USA, Author, Advocate & Renewable Industry Analyst, California
“Dr Joshua Earnest, author of numerous books on wind power, strikes a chord with everyone willing to think deeply about renewable energy and wind power in particular, as he tackles the most profound issues of wind power design and implementation. It is a true pleasure to read this extraordinary and inspiring ‘bible of wind power’.”
—Lars Hallén, Sweden, Founder & Chairman of LIFE Academy, Karlstad
“First-ever reference book from India with a highly practical stint and spread of inter-disciplinary ‘Know How’, ‘Know Why’ and ‘Deeper Knowledge’ for anyone who wants to Win with Wind Power Generation.”
—Dr. S. Gomathinayagam, India, Director General, National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) (formerly C-WET)
“This book is one of the most comprehensive books on wind energy, especially regarding the electrical systems of large wind power plants. I’m very pleased to see this new edition.”
—Sven Ruin, Sweden, Consultant for TEROC & Chairman of the Swedish Wind Power Association’s section on small-scale wind power
About the Author
Joshua Earnest, Ph.D., is Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Bhopal. He has about six years of industrial experience and thirty years of teaching and training experience. Besides being a trainer–educator of engineering teachers at the university and tertiary levels, he also trains executives of the industry.
His expertise is not only in the area of wind power but also in the other fields of engineering education. He has been the convener of India’s First International Wind Energy Conference at NITTTR, Bhopal in January 2006 and later in 2011 as well. Besides being a guest professor for wind power at Gotland University (now Uppsala University), Sweden, he has been the online wind power education resource person to CEPRI, China. Since 2009, he has been the wind power resource person for LIFE Academy, Karlstad, Sweden, University of Namibia, Windhoek and for other organizations too. He has also to his credit a considerable number of papers and articles published at the national and international levels.|TORE WIZELIUS is a Wind Power Consultant, who has authored nine books on wind power (in Swedish and English). While working as a lecturer at Gotland University (now Uppsala University) from 1998–2008 Tore Wizelius developed a number of online distance education university courses and also courses on wind power for technical university teachers in India, in cooperation with Prof. Joshua Earnest.
Tore Wizelius has a wide experience in wind power development around the world, not only from a technological point of view, but also from energy policy, spatial planning and project development. He has a special interest in socio-technical aspects and community power projects that benefit the local communities where the wind power plants are installed.
