About the Book

An autobiography of Peter Dut. At 10 years of age, rebels came and killed many in his village in Sudan, including his father. Peter became one of many who fled on foot to Kenya where he was able to come to America and make a new life for himself. This is his story of a modern prodigal son who, after 18 years of absence, returned home to a lost son's welcome.
About the Author: Peter Dut, son of Clan Chief Angon-Dhook, clan of Panyaang, to a tribe of Malual-Giernyang in the cradle homeland of his family found in Aweil, a state in Barl el Ghazal region in South Sudan, shares the details of the murder of his father by the Muralheen and his subsequent escape from Sudan as a 10 year old boy. As a survivor of the war and devastation in Sudan, Peter eventually found himself in Ethiopia and Kenya where he was classified as a "lost boy" and adopted by the United States. He found himself living in Arizona where he chose the academic path and that is where I was privileged to meet this fine young man. In addition to sharing his personal story, Peter passes on some of the wisdom that his father had passed on to him before his death. Peter Dut is a survivor of the long-time war in Sudan who lives in Arizona, became a college graduate, and who returned to Sudan to find that his mother and siblings are still alive after being gone for 18 years. Having returned to a hero's welcome as a successful American college graduate, Peter took for himself a wife from among his people. He returned to the United States and began working towards purchasing cows to provide a dowry in order to bring his wife to America. In the years since, Peter has returned to Sudan to father two sons and continues his quest to bring his family to America where they can all share in the American dream together.
