About the Book

For commercial product developers who have to write or want to hire someone to write Common Criteria documentation, Writing Common Criteria Documentation is a must-read. Drawing upon over a dozen years of experience with the Common Criteria, Wes Higaki has written his follow-on to Successful Common Criteria Evaluations: A Practical Guide for Vendors. This time, he gets down to the details of producing the complex set of documents required for Common Criteria product security evaluations. He provides plain language explanations for the documentation requirements as well as tips and examples of how to efficiently write these documents. The book covers all of the documentation required for Evaluation Assurance Levels EAL2 and EAL4 including: Security Target, Configuration Management, Secure Delivery, Secure Development, Lifecycle Model, Flaw Remediation, Security Architecture, Functional Specifications, Design, Test, and Vulnerability Analysis.
About the Author: Wes Higaki led the product certification program at Symantec Corporation for seven years. He set the product security certification strategy and managed all of the certification projects. In that role, Wes reviewed and edited the documentation used in the evaluations. Wes wrote Successful Common Criteria Evaluations: A Practical Guide for Vendors in 2010 to help others by sharing his insights into the Common Criteria process. Wes has contributed to the public awareness of the Common Criteria by co-founding the Common Criteria Vendors' Forum (CCVF). The CCVF was an informal group of representative from commercial product companies that were actively involved in Common Criteria evaluation to discuss issues and to serve as the "voice of industry" in the Common Criteria global community. Most recently, Wes has been a Common Criteria consultant creating Common Criteria documentation and providing project management for product developers. Wes has over 30 years of technical and managerial experience in the software industry. Prior to Symantec, Wes worked for Axent Technologies and over 20 years in R&D at Hewlett-Packard Company. Wes received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of California, Davis and a Master of Science degree in computer science from Santa Clara University.
