About the Author: Michael R. Slavit, PhD, is a psychologist in private practice. He holds an AB in psychology from Brown University, an MA in counseling from the University of Rhode Island, and a PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
Before becoming a licensed psychologist, he had a wide range of work experiences, including construction laborer, taxi driver, lifeguard, and social caseworker. Now, although he is board certified in cognitive and behavioral psychology, he considers his most important credential to be the trust of his patients.
Slavit has written numerous handouts and "Ask the Psychologist" columns for various clients, as well as the books Your Life: An Owner's Guide, Lessons from Desiderata, Cure Your Money Ills, and Train Your Wandering Mind.
