Im Vorfeld dieses Ehrenfestes im Mai 2012 wird für die GGB, einer der schönsten Brücken überhaupt, dem Symbol der Metropolregion San Francisco wie auch Ikone der USA, wird ihre Brückenbiographie, ihre Weg von der Idee bis zur Wirklichkeit und in ihre Zukunft an Hand des aufgeführten, recherchierten umfangreichen Schrifttums aufgezeigt. Zeitlich gefasst ist der historische Exkurs vom ersten Goldfund 1848 von "James Wilson Marshall (1810-1885) in der Mühle des Schweizer John August Sutter (1803-1880) am Fuße der Sierra", also der Begründung des "gold rush" nahe San Franciscos, dem Ort, der bis 1847 Yerba Buena hieß und nur 450 Einwohner hatte. Fortsetzung findet die geschichtliche Periodisierung mit dem Blick auf den im 1868 aufkommenden regelmäßigen Fährbetrieb auf der San Francisco Bay, die intensive Stadtexpansion von SF auf 400.000 Einwohner 1906, dem Für und Wider, den Entwurf, die Durchsetzung und Bauausführung, den Bestand und Erhalt, die Wirkung, Faszination, Zukunft der zu den Königinnen der Brücken zählenden Golden Gate Bridge. Eingegangen wird auch auf die Höhepunkte der Golden Gate Bridge Jubiläen zum 25. und 50. Geburtstag ihrer Fertigstellung wie auch Eröffnung. Dass "The Men of Vision" - J. B. Strauss und A. P.
